My mother just told me she hasn’t heard of “Logan Lucky,” a comedy crime caper from director Steven Soderbergh. I’m not sure how it will financially perform at the box office, since August is the slowest month for movies, and how most people rely on ads for big budget movies to save their skins. For those of you who have heard of this movie, just know it is unbelievably funny and wildly entertaining.

The movie stars Channing Tatum as Jimmy Logan, a North Carolina contractor, who loses his job because of a limping problem, and Adam Driver as his bartender brother Clyde, who lost his arm while serving in Iraq. They both have a plan to steal money during the Coca-Cola 600 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

To pull off this heist, they turn to Joe Bang (Daniel Craig), a former thief-turned-convict, who is about 5 months away from being released. They need to pull off the heist ASAP, so Clyde has to throw himself in jail, so he can help him escape and then put him back before anyone finds out. He even has two dimwitted brothers (Brian Gleeson, son of Brendan Gleeson, and Jack Quaid, son of Dennis Quaid), and Jimmy and Clyde both have a sister (Riley Keough), all of whom manage to help them pull it off.

With an all-star cast including Katie Holmes, Katherine Waterston, Seth MacFarlene, Dwight Yoakam, Sebastian Stan, and Hilary Swank, “Logan Lucky” is the kind of heist comedy that leaves you amazed at how even in the most idiotic situations, it all goes according to plan. You’re laughing at the impossibilities and intelligence, and you’re entertained by the outcome of them. Tatum, Driver, and Craig all lead a great cast. There are a few elements I didn’t really get (or maybe I will), but Steven Soderbergh has done it again.
