A Bad Moms Christmas

The “Bad Moms” from just last year was a big surprise for me. It turned out to be a sweet-hearted and funny chick flick with nice work by Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn as the main Moms.

Now this year, we have “A Bad Moms Christmas,” which now adds Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines, and Susan Sarandon as the mothers of the three moms. And as much as all these actresses are great, this creepy, irritating, and unfunny sequel lacks the pure magic of the original. Like “Horrible Bosses 2,” this is what I’d like to call: “A Remake in Disguise.”

Amy (Kunis), Kiki (Bell), and Carla (Hahn) are overworked mothers, even at the holidays. Has anyone not learned anything in the last film. They decide to have fun this year, but threatening their holidays are their mothers. Amy’s mother (Baranski) is a spoiled-rotten snoot, who hates her taste in Christmas; Kiki’s mother (Hines) is a creepy nut, who wants to be closer to her daughter; and Carla’s mother (Sarandon) is a gambling addict, who only sees her daughter when she needs money.

It has become apparent that Christmas movies aren’t what they used to be. “It’s a Wonderful Life” was a holiday classic from the 1940s, and “Elf” was outrageously holiday comedy from 2003. This generation’s new holiday comedies (“Love the Coopers,” “The Night Before,” “Almost Christmas,” and “Bad Santa 2”) are so sloppy and uninspired, that they end up coming to Blu-Ray and DVD in February instead of November.

That’s no exception with “A Bad Moms Christmas.” It’s more of the same with the strict rules, partying, booze, and obvious life lessons. Sometimes it’s mean, other times it’s awkward and creepy, and not one joke tickled me.

Kunis is the sole survivor of this holly jolly mess, because of her emotions and ambitions. She does what she can, but given the fact this is another lame sequel, this is one of the worst movies of the year.
