10 Movies To Anticipate in 2026

Meep Meep! I can’t wait to see them!

Without mentioning a sequel or remake or reboot, I can search for and name ten films we should look forward to in the year 2026. Some of them are new adaptations of classic stories, one of which almost never saw the light of day.

“Wuthering Heights” (In Theaters February 13)

Emerald Fennel’s latest film is inspired by Emily Bronte’s novel, and now stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. I can’t wait to see how the director of “Promising Young Woman” and “Saltburn” turns this classic story into a modern gothic piece of erotic entertainment.

“Goat” (In Theaters February 13)

We all know that GOAT means “Greatest of All Time,” so why doesn’t Sony Pictures Animation and producer Stephen Curry make an animated film about a goat who wants to be the GOAT? With the same stylized animation as then “Spider-Verse” movies and “KPop Demon Hunters” and an all-star voice cast including Caleb McLachlin, Gabrielle Union, and Nick Kroll, I sure it will do a better job with basketball and animation than “Space Jam: A New Legacy” did.

“Hoppers” (In Theaters March 6)

I tried to tell kids and parents to see Disney and Pixar’s “Elio” last summer, but somehow it didn’t really find its crowd. If I do enjoy their next film “Hoppers,” maybe they’ll listen. Instead of penguins or Na’vi telling a story about the fight against deforestation and anti-environmentalism, we have beavers doing that. Or more like a girl operating a robot beaver. And the voice cast includes Piper Curda, Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, and Meryl Streep.

“Project Hail Mary” (In Theaters March 20)

This is the first movie Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have directed since “22 Jump Street” and has Ryan Gosling as an astronaut who doesn’t know how he can save the Earth, but he’s our only hope. This is also the latest movie based on Andy Weir’s book to be adapted with Drew Goddard’s screenplay after “The Martian.” Now, this is something I’d like to see.

“The Drama” (In Theaters April 3rd)

Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are the leads of this dark romantic comedy in which they’re preparing to get married, but have to deal with……drama in their lives. This is also the latest A24 film from Kristoffer Borgli, who also gave us “Dream Scenario.” And the trailer looks like there’s going to be more tension and less of the “Materialists” sweetness.

“Disclosure Day” (In Theaters June 12)

We know Steven Spielberg has specialized the alien genre with movies like “E.T” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” and he returns to that with a new alien picture. The trailers and posters are already haunting, and the cast (including Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Wyatt Russell) sounds top notch. I’m just not really sure what it’s about at this point.

“The Odyssey” (In Theaters July 17)

When Christopher Nolan suggested he would never work with Netflix, my response was: “You tell them, Nolan.” This time, he retells Homer’s epic poem with Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as his wife Penelope, Zendaya as Athena, and Charlize Theron as Circe. I can already smell 4 stars here.

“Coyote vs. Acme” (In Theaters August 28)

This was one of Warner Bros’ shelved films that finally saw the light of day kudos to Ketchup Entertainment. We know Wile E. Coyote gets his weapons and traps from the ACME Corporation. But this movie shows him suing them with Will Forte playing his lawyer. Meep Meep!

“Digger” (In Theaters October 2nd)

Tom Cruise working with Alejandro González Iñárritu reminds me of how he collaborated with Paul Thomas Anderson in “Magnolia” and the late Stanley Kubrick on his last movie “Eyes Wide Shut.” We just got a teaser trailer, and already I’m excited to see it. And this is finally his first non-Ethan Hunt role since “American Made.”

“Werwulf” (In Theaters Christmas Day)

Robert Eggers’ last film was “Nosferatu,” which was one of the best vampire movies I have ever seen. So, I guess this movie might have something to do with a werewolf. I can’t say for sure, but the cast does feature Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson.

Opinions of movies are subject to change, and I have to actually see them in order to know for sure if they’ll be good or bad. And if you want my take on upcoming sequels (“Toy Story 5,” “Focker-In-Law,” “Avengers: Doomsday”), you can wait until the reviews go out. In the meantime, enjoy the new year.
