2022’s Midway Point

The Best and Worst Movies of 2022 So Far.

You know the deal: June is when I give you the best and worst movies I saw during the first half of the year. This has been going on for 6 years, when my website name was originally “CJ’s Movie Madhouse,” and it will continue with “The Midway Point” name. As always, my choices are subject to change later this year, and the real winner and losers will be presented in December.

All things considered, this has been a pretty good year at the movies so far. “Turning Red” took a lot of risks for a Pixar film, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” took the multiverse genre to unreachable levels, and sequels like “Scream,” “Death on the Nile,” “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” and “Jackass Forever” were lively and decent. But the best sequel so far this year was “Top Gun: Maverick,” which just opened in time for the summer season.

Time progresses, and I gave people enough time to digest that transition, but things have never been better. I’ve changed my writing skills to live up to the expectations of our best film critics, living or deceased. And I want to thank everyone for supporting my work.
