A Netflix sequel that has less life than the original. Let’s recap on “The Old Guard.” Charlize Theron played an immortal soldier named Andromache of Scythia, or Andy for short, who has […]
The Old Guard 2
Jurassic World: Rebirth
A sequel that’s a million years in the past, yet again. Here’s how I thought about “Jurassic World: Dominion” when I panned it: “ It seems so routine about how its story was […]
M3GAN 2.0
A sequel that likes to upgrade itself, but feels more like a downgrade. Last week, I received a comment on my 1-star review of “The Electric State.” I don’t know if it […]
28 Years Later
A dangerous and unvaccinated zombie sequel made by the original filmmakers. When I reviewed “28 Days Later” in my 2020 article “How to Survive a Virus Flick,” I mentioned how it did […]
Karate Kid: Legends

Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning
A fun, but overlong MI conclusion. That is if it is the last entry. If you recall the first part of “Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning,” Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt had to stop the […]
Another Simple Favor
Another fun murder mystery sequel. If you recall the last time “Simple Favor,” the dotty mom Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) exposes the missing mom Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) as a murderer on […]
The Accountant 2
This sequel gets its numbers right. I was one of the few film critics to enjoy “The Accountant” from 2016, which you may recall had Ben Affleck playing Christian Wolff, an autistic […]
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy
This lovable sequel brings Renee Zellweger’s character back on track. The last “Bridget Jones” film “Bridget Jones’s Baby” was on my list of the Worst Films of 2016 for being so desperate […]
Captain America: Brave New World
Code Red: this is a fun Marvel entry. These days, the most successful MCU movies on both sides of the equation are “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “Guardians of […]
